How does Novel protect against fraud?
The measures we put in place to protect you and your customers.
We understand that people will do whatever it takes to save a buck. In order to protect you from lost revenue Novel has:
Implemented system checks upon install to ensure a customer can only have one pass at a time
Implemented system checks upon redemption to ensure only one Novel generated code can be redeemed in checkout
One Pass Per Person (device fingerprinting)
Novel has implemented device fingerprinting to prevent customers from installing multiple wallet passes to their device. A device fingerprint is information collected about the software and hardware of a mobile device for the purpose of identification. The information is usually assimilated into a brief identifier using a fingerprinting algorithm. Novel's fingerprint technology ensures that customers can't install another pass by simply utilizing a different email address. This prevents the abuse of Welcome Bonuses and self referrals.
Only One Novel Generated Gift Card Per Transaction
This only applies for merchants who utilize Novel store credit.
Novel has order cancellation logic validating every transaction where Novel credit is used. As you can imagine, a customer should only ever have one Novel generated gift card - if they are attempting to use multiple codes in an order - that would indicate that they either tried gaming the system or had a friend/family member share their code with them.
If a customer attempts to apply more than one Novel store credit balance to an order, Novel prevents this by executing the following steps:
Cancel, refund, and tag the order with "Fraud Order" for tracking purposes
Zero out the customer’s store credit balance
If that customer then reaches out to Support, the Support representative can decide if they want to give the credit back to the customer via the Novel customer profile view. The Support representative has access to activity logs for each pass holder, allowing them to render informed judgements.
